Subject: Certified Access Specialist Program Announcement
The Division of the State Architect (DSA) is pleased to announce that the Office of Administrative Law has approved the regulations for
the voluntary Certified Access Specialist (CASp) Program. DSA expects to publish the first list of Certified Access Specialists by October 31, 2008.
Three steps are necessary to become a Certified Access Specialist:
STEP 1. Candidate Eligibility Application
Applications for the CASp Program will be accepted on a continuing
basis beginning July 17, 2008.
To apply online, please visit: https://www.apps.dgs.ca.gov/casp/casp_main.aspx If you prefer to register by mail, you may print a hard copy of the Candidate Eligibility Application, Form DSA-600 or you may request an application form by mail. An application fee of $500.00 must accompany the Candidate Eligibility Application, Form DSA-600. Applicants will be notified of acceptance after their application has been reviewed and the necessary criteria have been satisfied.
STEP 2. Examination Registration
After acceptance into the program, candidates will be able to register for the examination.
Registration for the first CASp examination will take place between July 30 and August 27, 2008 and must include the $800.00 candidate examination fee. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis up to a maximum of 400 candidates.
The first CASp examination is scheduled for September 29, 2008. Morning and afternoon examinations will be held at two locations:
Red Lion Hotel 1401 Arden Way
Sacramento, CA 95815 Hawthorne Memorial Center 3901 West El Segundo Blvd Hawthorne, CA 90250
STEP 3. Certification
Successful examinees will be issued an
official CASp Certificate upon payment of the $300.00 certification fee. This certificate will serve as evidence that you met the State Architects specific criteria to be identified as a Certified
Access Specialist.
This certification is valid for three years from the date the certification fee is paid. CASp certification may be renewed for an additional three years by completing 15 Continuing Education Units during the certification.
Per Government Code Section 4459.7, the name and phone number of every CASp will be placed on a list published and maintained by DSA.
